In this blog, I provide training and instruction on being delivered from evil.

As the Scripture says:

"Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name...deliver us from evil." (Mat 6:9, 13a)

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm." (Eph 6:12-13)

Some of the topics covered include the origin of sin and satan, demonology, evil giants, conspiracies, the dangers of disobedience, the consequences of sin, the origin of secular music, the protection of God from the forces of darkness, spiritual warfare, angelic visitations, true freedom from bondage, and overcoming by the power of Jesus' Name.  I hope this will be an instructive, edifying, and encouraging experience for you that will help you to grow in your walk with the Lord.

Do You Want to Know Him?
If you want to know Jesus personally, you can. It all begins when you repent and believe in Jesus.  Do you know what God's Word, the Bible says?

“Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” (Mar 1:14b-15).  He preached that we must repent and believe.

Please see my explanation of this in my post called "Do You Want to Know Jesus?"

Divorcing the Devil

Sometimes we may experience conflict with others or even come under attack by people. We need to understand that our battle is a spiritual one, and that we battle not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil. Paul said it like this:

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph 6:12)

Your Spouse is Not the Devil
You need to realize that your husband is not the devil. Your wife is not the devil. Your brother or sister is not the devil. Your son or daughter is not the devil. Your boss is not the devil. Your neighbor is not the devil. Many times a person may get a divorce from his spouse, because of the conflicts between the two of them, but then later, if he gets get remarried to someone else, he finds he still has the same problem. The reason is that his spouse was not the problem, the devil was the problem, and since he didn't deal with the actual root cause of the problem, he encounters the same thing with his next marriage partner.

If one or both parties are walking in the flesh, then they are pathways for the devil to work through them in various ways. You cannot be walking in the flesh and in the spirit at the same time, since the flesh and spirit are diametrically opposed to each other. But if we deal with the sin in our lives by repenting and asking God for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ, then we will be cleansed and set free from all kinds of bondage. If both marriage partners do that, then there can be a new beginning for their marriage and a renewal of love. The same goes for any relationship, not just the one between a husband and a wife.

Renunciation of the Devil
What you need to do is divorce the devil, rather than divorce your spouse. If you are a born again believer in Jesus Christ, then here is how you can pray to divorce the devil: "I renounce satan, and all of his works and pomps, and all of his minions. I cancel every contract with hell, every covenant with death, and I break every tie with darkness, in Jesus' name!"

You could pray, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I cancel every evil assignment, plan, plot, scheme, and curse of the devil against me, my spouse, and children, rendering them null and void. I loose us from them and bind us under God's protection."

You could further shout, "The devil stands condemned already. The Lord rebuke you, satan! In the name of Jesus, get thee behind me, satan! You have lost your place in heaven. Jesus Christ has triumphed over you at the cross and made a public spectacle of you there. He has disarmed you." (Jn 16:11; Zech 3:2; Jude 1:9; Mt 16:23; Rev 12:8; Col 2:15).

You could boldly command him, "Devil, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I command you to get your hands off of my life, off of my marriage, off of my children, off of my health, off of my finances, and off of my property! I am bought by the blood of Jesus and my life is not my own, but it belongs to Him."

You could further add, "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I cut off every evil spirit that has attached itself to me!. Away from me, you evildoers, that I may obey the commands of my God! I have nothing but hatred for you! I consider you my enemies!" (Ps 119:115; 139:22).

You could further shout, "I call for a sword for the Lord and for [state your own name]! Get them, holy angels, leave no survivors!" (Josh 10:30, 40; Judg 7:20).

You could top that off by shouting, "In the name of Jesus Christ, I bind every evil spirit within the sound of my voice! I command you to depart from me and return to the pit from whence you came, reporting failure to your master, and I forbid you to return to me or send reinforcements. Holy fire!"

Closing Words
Go ahead and divorce the devil and cut him off from continuing to wreak havoc in your life. Then be sure and close all doors in your life that are open to the enemy, or else he will just come right back in. Repent of all known sins in your life, depart from all iniquity, and cling to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you and put all those things under His blood, so that they will not count against you. Don't give the devil any opportunity to get a foothold of any kind in your life, but follow Jesus with all your heart. Feed on His Word daily. Believe in Him and do what He says. Then watch how He begins to bless you and turn your life around.

Demonology 301

I am reposting this sermon by Yong-Doo Kim, pastor of the Lord's Church in South Korea, because I have benefited greatly from his ministry, and he has years of experience battling demons.  This pastor has been to heaven and hell many times, and has authored five books about his experiences in the series called Baptized by Blazing Fire.  So I think he qualifies as a sort of "subject matter expert" on this topic, or someone with firsthand knowledge, who is not simply an echo for the ideas of other men.

Message on demons, given by brother Yong Doo Kim, May 15, 2011:

Let us be strong in the power of the Lord

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel." (Eph 6:10-19, NASB)

If you read John 12:31, it states that satan is “ruler of this world”. In 2 Corinthians 4:4, satan is expressed as the “god of this world”

John 12:31 (AMP) “Now the judgment (crisis) of this world is coming on [sentence is now being passed on this world]. Now the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world shall be cast out (expelled).”

2 Corinthians 4:4 (AMP) “For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.”

There is a structure/system within the demonic realm. satan’s organization is composed of many different variety of fields or areas and it is countless. These enormous organizations are endlessly connected to one another. It is a thoroughly built structure. It is somewhat like how a pyramid schemes operates. There are  particular groups that plan events. It is their war department like the Pentagon. These particular groups of demons plan many events and commands. There are other groups that just reports and updates. These groups of demons create strategies, tactics and report things to satan. There are other groups that participate in the actual spiritual warfare. And then there are groups who are responsible for inciting the emotions and temperament of people. The organization is divided into what appears to be countless and endless fields of groups and positions.

When someone is filled with the Holy Spirit, the demons will come and utilize their best strategies by sowing weeds to hinder and break them. When someone is fed God’s Word, the demons will come and plant weeds to prevent the person from being rooted into good soil. The demons will come to hinder and prevent the people who are rooted in good soil from bearing good fruits. When a person is faithful to the Lord, the devil will come and apply strategies to entice the person to quarrel with other Christians so faithful one will leave the church. As people come to apprehend the Word of God, the demons will come to hinder and prevent them from walking in the Word. The demons will attempt [to keep] Christians from walking and applying the Word of God. When it comes to those who are good listeners to God and to those who obey His Word, the demons will come to stir them in an attempt to make them overreact to cause quarrel and strife among the brethren. It is the strategy of demons to make Christians make mistakes. If people are humble, the devil will attempt to make them become passive. However, contrary to passiveness, those who are aggressive, the devil will utilize that trait to cause more quarrel and strife.

satan and his soldiers will observe humans without limits to obtain ways to hinder and attack us. The demons do not roam around without purpose. The demons will generally taunt Christians in such a way.

“Hey! Will you continue to pray even though your situation is not improving? Look at your children, they are still rebellious! Look at yourself! You are still depressed! What is the use of praying?”

There are always demons working behind our negative thoughts. Remember, God has chained satan with utter darkness. He is pure darkness and evil.

Moreover, for example, demons like to stir up people by enticing certain thoughts into our minds such as, “Get on your computer. Watch the lustful videos and pictures. Get angry and fight! Break up, divorce, and leave your husband/wife!”

The outer appearance of satan is very grotesque. He does not look like human nor animal. He is very dirty, eerie and wicked looking. This is the one whom we are fighting against. This is reality. We are not able to combat such a being with our feelings, emotions, or thoughts.

There are different groups in which we spiritually fight against. In Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) [it says], "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

The first group is principalities. The principality group is formed with countless structure/system/organizations. This group is the strongest among the other groups. This group is responsible for delivering reports to satan on a regular basis. They are like staff officers that create tactical strategies. It is a very important group to satan. This group organizes all the plans and methods to carry out the work. This group’s power is very impressive. It is like the brains of the operation. On my 6th book, I level them as a first ranked group. They are right below satan. These are satan’s generals. They are very keen and plan with diligence.

The second group is the power group. They are second in rank. The countless demons in these groups are very active. These spiritual beings roam throughout space. satan will pray a blessing over this group of demons. “Go fill the earth and destroy! Create trials of curses!!” satan dispatches this group after he prays over them. As I was preparing this sermon, a white two headed dragon demon appeared and harassed me. He was very angry. It is like how churches dispatch missionaries. The demons do it in similar fashion.

“We need more forces for this particular region. Speedily come help us!” When their forces become weak, they will report to satan of their situation. Then satan will fill them up again with strength and reinforcements. satan gives power and strength to replenish them. When they are replenished, they go back and start destroying again. It is like when we do our fire ministry, we can be replenished and recharged with more fire power from above. When we stretch out our arms upward and shout out, “Lord, grant us more powerful Holy Fire!” then the powerful Holy Fire comes down and engulfs us.

The third group are rulers of the darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness. These groups of demons compete with one another for territories. These demons have their own operating areas. As a result, these particular demons engage and fight with Christians the most. They are in the sense the foot soldiers. However, this does not mean we do not still fight or engage with the other groups of demons. Previously, I had traveled to Corona to hold a fire revival meeting. But the evil spirits that were seizing that particular region pierced my head with (spiritually) sharp thick nails and as a result I was rolling around my bed in so much pain screaming. Even though they are spiritual beings, they can inflict physical pain. It does not matter where you are. All the regions and nations are seized by certain groups of demons. These demons have their own regions. They compete with one another to gain more territory to be rewarded by satan. Humans are the victims of this competition. War between humans are a manifestation of the spiritual competition among demons to gain territory.

Daniel 10:13 (NKJV) “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief [of the celestial] princes, came to help me, for I remained there with the kings of Persia.”

When Daniel fasted and prayed for 21 days, the kingdom of Persia withstood him. But at the last day of his fasting, God sent Archangel Michael to open the way and to help Daniel. The kingdom of Persia are rulers of darkness. They do the wicked works.

Mark 5:10 (AMP) “And he kept begging Him urgently not to send them [himself and the other demons] away out of that region.”

These demons had begged Jesus for them not to be sent away. These demons had seized that particular region. There are countless of regions that demons are seizing such as country, city, certain regions, provinces, and even within the churches. The demons will also seize countries with their customs and culture to influence the world or other nations in order to corrupt them.

Previously,  I had visited a museum which was located in the city of On Yang, Korea. This museum has on display many old Korean traditional costumes and cultural historical artifacts. The priests that had worshipped the sea king spirit wore certain costumes or outfits during their rituals. The shamans and the Korean village guardians were also on display. They were life like figures made from wood displayed for the audience. There were so many demon spirits in the museum. I was severely attacked and afterwards I had a difficult time praying. It had broken my normal praying rhythm.

The evil spirits dwelling and roaming in the heavenly places are the most practical workers within the demonic organization. They are the ones who will penetrate into the churches and the believers. These countless number of evil spirits are responsible for stopping the believers from worshiping God in true freedom. They are the ones who will attempt to stop the pastors from working God’s ministry effectively and will attempt to make the leadership complacent and lazy. They are responsible for stealing our joy and the willingness to serve with a grateful and sacrificial heart within the church. They are responsible for taking away the faithfulness in doing God’s work. These evil spirits are the ones that most harass the church and the body of Christ.

What are we to do to repel such attacks? We must arm ourselves with the full armor of God! We must pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty.

Offensive and defensive weapons are at our disposal. The defensive weapons are as follow, Girding our waists with Truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoeing our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace, and taking the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation. The offensive weapon is the Sword of the Spirit or the Word of God! We must pray at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and entreaty.

As some people are only devoted to studying and analysing the bible without much prayer or Spirit, the demons of cult are dispatched to destroy them. When someone in the church is very devoted to self sacrifice in doing God’s work, the demons will stir up other people within the church to become envy and jealous. Once the evil spirits seizes our thoughts, it will be very hard for us to overcome such a trap. The spiritual warfare starts with a thought. We must pray asking God, “Lord! Seize my thoughts!” Then fight continues in the mind. We must have victory in this area. When we have evil things or unholy things in our minds, we must instantly shout out, “In the Name of Jesus! Get out, satan! We must shout out immediately to cast such bad seeds away without hesitation. Lastly, the demons will attempt to utilize our body/flesh to carry out what is in our thoughts and minds. Therefore, we must use our free will very carefully. When the evil spirits attack us, it is not at impulse but a well-orchestrated plan. Before they attack us, they would have already grasped our personalities and activities in all things within our lives. They already know the good and bad within us which may be physical and psychological. They have already thoroughly studied us. This is why we must become skillful soldiers.

There are patterns and flows within the demonic activities. The demons have their own name such as the spirit of lust, violence, hate, and so on. These spirits entice people starting with a thought, to the mind, and then to the flesh to carry out in action. Once a person acts upon it in the flesh, he/she has fallen deep.

We must disclose the activities of the evil spirits. The reason why we must disclose the activities and function of the evil spirits is because many Christians are ignorant in regards to them. Moreover, many Christians are seized by the demons and ignorant to that reality. As a result, the Kingdom of God is hindered by these evil spirits as many Christians do not know the identity and function of evil spirits.

Demons have different activities. For example, the demons will measure our faith to a higher standard of faith than we may actually possess in order to attack us. They may put such a thought as, “Why does your faith not even come close to Job? You must at least have faith like him! Even after we had killed all his children taking everything from him, he did not have any resentment toward God. What kind of faith is yours?”

We must go through many spiritual experiences to strengthen our faith. We do not start out with the faith of Job.

Isaiah 27:1 “In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea.”

Scripture referred to satan as Leviathan. This twisting nature make people misunderstand each other by distorting and confusing many things. Snakes do not move straight but move in a zigzag motion. The demons will twist things within the churches and families. They will utilize the personality and character of a person for their gain. It is difficult for demons to use people who make choices to live holy lives. Such people will gain understanding of the spiritual realm and thus the demons will move on to other people.

If one is depressed, one should not continue acknowledging their situation or status by saying they are depressed. They must instead proclaim that they are not depressed! However, if one continues to say that they have depression and that it is hard and lonely, then they will have attracted many more such demons. Such a person will be filled with depressed demons and the demons will utilize such illness for their advantage.

When a person faithfully follows Jesus, the demons will attack in such a way. “You are no different than any other people. Since you are human and weak, you will fall and become corrupted!” They will attack anyone hoping someone will fall.

We must have the assurance of our salvation but at the same time we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. So many people are losing the battle with themselves, with their surrounding and circumstances. The demons accurately use our personality, character, preferences, emotions, and human nature to defeat us.

I pray that you will have victory and overcome with the full armor of God and with all prayer and entreaty. Have victory and overcome bad seeds of thought, mind and body/flesh!! Hallelujah!!

Demonology 101

Today I would like to post an excellent video called "How To Cast Out Devils,"  which is the third video of an eight-part series.  This is an in-depth teaching on deliverance, by David Middleton, pastor, from the "Doers of the Word" ministry.

Brother Middleton's Summary of This Video
We have seen why we are going to cast out demons because it is the great commission, it's going to bring the kingdom of God into manifestation, it will spoil satan's house in you, it's going to bring freedom from captivity and bruising, it's going to perfect holiness in you. It's going to bring satan's forceful fall in your life and he is going to decrease more and more in his effects in your life. It's going to break the generational curses, it's going to bring soul realm and physical realm healing and liberty and victory in your life.

You are going to understand the workings of satan of how he works in your life in inheritance lines so you see what has been going on so you can now recognize what has been happening so you do not fall for his tricks again. We can know what demons are in us by detection of what problems are in our life by taking a good look at our inheritance line using the cast out sessions to discover the spirits as they release out. Also seeking revelation from the Holy Spirit and as you are engaging in deliverance and proceeding in it you will discover more of the demons in you coming out. Sometimes if we are in casting out sessions casting out demons in one person and they might start coming out of another person next to them cause they had the same kind of spirit and you might discover what is in you when someone else is getting them cast out. So how do we cast them out. Remember it is for all those who are born again and you are right with God.

We are going to confess our sins and forgive every person we are going to remit the sins and iniquities of our forefathers and we are going to be sure we are walking right with the Lord and be willing to do what he says and be ready to engage in the warfare. We must realize we are more than a conquer and that we have authority. The greater one is in us and God want's you to use the authority he gave to you. In the kingdom you are a king in a position of authority and he wants you to start using that authority by casting out demons. As you do that you are going to be putting the authority and power of God into operation that will release God's power and authority to drive out the demons.

How do we do it? We command them to come out casting them out and we do this in the name of Jesus. When we begin the process after having confessed our sins and the forgiveness of others and the remitting of sins we are going to bind satan first and then we are going to begin to aggressively command the demons to come out as we speak to them by their function continually commanding them to come out until they release out of us. And as we continually and aggressively command them to come out you are going to see these evil spirits release out of you with a yawn, cough, sigh, burp, some release of breath in some capacity and they will try to resist coming out but you keep on casting them out until they start releasing out of you. Until they release and come out then that means they are resisting.

One thing that will help you to get these demons out quickly and that is as your are casting out the demon and they are not coming out very quickly and you might feel pain then cough out with deep breathy coughs or throwing your breath out will help to throw the spirits out and after you do that the demons will come out with coughs or yawns. The Lord showed me this when I started casting out demons 30 years ago. Demons will try to fight and the deep breathy coughs help to release the resisting spirits to come out of a person quickly and this also stops manifestations of demons. Deliverance is really a very simple process find out what is in you by all their functions and start casting out the demons and then make a list of everything and continue to cast them out. There can be quit a network of demons in you. This is a process and once they are driven out you will be free and you will have no more problems but you got to understand deliverance is a continual process to drive them out until they are all gone.

[End of summary by brother David Middleton.]

My Comments
I have watched this video and agree with what brother Middleton teaches here, except for perhaps one thing.  I think that we can also cast demons out of non-believers.  Jesus did this with the Canaanite woman's daughter (Matt 15:21-28).  Paul also cast an evil spirit of divination out of the slave girl in Philippi (Act 16:16-18).

I highly recommend this video and suggest that all believers watch it.  The vast majority of pastors and Christians today seem to believe that demons cannot enter into the lives of believers.  This comes from a gross misunderstanding of how demons work.

Demons can and do get into the lives of believers through sin.  Even the smallest sins can open a door for the enemy to get in.  Once a demon gets into your body, they will seek to afflict it in some way.  Then they can eventually try to gain access to your soul.  Once they have access to your soul, they can wield a great deal of influence over your thoughts and control your life to the degree you allow them to remain there.  All of this can happen while at the same time your spirit is born again and inhabited by the Holy Spirit.

The devil doesn't want you to know this, because once you do, he is not going to be able to work in the lives of people unhindered any longer.  He will be finished.  His works will be destroyed.  So he uses great deception to keep you from knowing the identity of the demons that are at work in the world and in your life. It's time we blow their cover and cast them out of our lives!  Jesus Christ loves you and wants you to be completely free!

What Lurks in the Darkness?

As we read God’s Word, we learn about the devil and the demons, concerning what they know, what kind of character they have, as well as how they think and act. We know that Satan and the demons are simply created beings, fallen angels.

We want to be excellent about what is good and innocent about what is evil. So we don’t want to be experts regarding demons. But to learn more about them, let’s take a look at some of the Scriptures that teach us:

Satan and demons know Who Jesus Is
In Luke’s gospel, he specifically noted that Jesus is the Son of God. (Luk 3:38). There was a clear confirmation of that when John baptized Jesus. At that time, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." (Luk 3:22)

This was no surprise to Satan and the demons. James teaches us that they know who Jesus is. “You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” (Jam 2:19)

The demons are absolutely terrified of Jesus. We see this on the occasion when Jesus met the demoniac in the Gerasenes. Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!" (Mar 5:6-7). The demons were speaking through the man, calling Jesus the Son of the Most High God. And they knew He had the power to torment them, so they begged Him not to do so.

The demons said to Him on another occasion: "Let us alone! What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!" (Luk 4:34)

Demons also were coming out of many, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ. (Luk 4:41)

Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout, "You are the Son of God!" (Mar 3:11)

So Satan and the demons absolutely know who Jesus is. And they know who God’s people are also.

But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches." Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" (Act 19:13-15). So clearly the demons and Satan not only recognize Jesus and know who He is, they also know about his servants, because Jesus lives in us!

Satan tempted Jesus to prove He is God’s Son
And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." (Mat 4:3)

Then the devil *took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and *said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, 'HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU'; and 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'" (Mat 4:5-6)

The devil wanted the Son of God to worship him. Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of this world and said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." (Mat 4:9). This was all just a continuation of Satan’s rebellion against God and his hatred for God. He will stoop to the lowest level and do the dirtiest, most evil things, even seeking to get God’s Son to worship him. He is filled with pride and dreams of having people worship him. His greatest joy would have been to see the Son of God do so.

Men challenged the Divinity of Christ
Just as the devil challenged Jesus to prove His divinity, men also did the same. The thief on the cross did this when he said, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." (Mat 27:40)

The demons do no want to give up their territory
In the case of the Gerasene demoniac that I mentioned earlier, the demons did not want to give up their territory. “And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.” (Mar 5:10)

satan and the demons come to kill, steal, and destroy
Satan is a thief and Jesus described His character well when He said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (Joh 10:10)

Satan is the adversary of every true child of God. Like a wild predator beast, he’s always out looking for someone to devour. That’s why Peter warned us to watch out for Him. “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1Pe 5:8).

This is evident from the book of Job where Satan told God he had been roaming about the earth. The LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it." (Job 1:7) And look at what his purpose was for roaming. He was not just enjoying the view or trying to add value to society! In the end, we know that Satan wanted to steal from Job. He was allowed by God to steal Job’s health and property. He wanted to get Job to curse God. He used Job’s wife to tempt him to do this. And he wanted to destroy Job. He was allowed by God to kill Job’s children and afflict Job with a horrible disease. But in the end, he was not allowed to take Job’s life. Satan was only allowed to do what God gave him permission to do. And although Job was a righteous man who lived a blameless life before God, the Lord used Satan to purify Job even more. In the end, God restored Job’s health and his wealth. The Lord gave much to Job, then He took it away. But in the end, God gave back to Job and He was abundantly blessed!

Satan loves death
He likes to make people become infatuated with death. Just like the demoniac who lived among the tombs. There was no one in those tombs except dead people. But Satan forced him to live there among them.

Satan likes to hurt people
Satan likes to hurt people, because they are made in God’s image. He takes pleasure in doing this, especially to those who know the Lord. Look at the woman who was bent over for 18 long years, because Satan had afflicted in her spine. This woman was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. Jesus said. "And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?" (Luk 13:16). When Jesus laid His hands on her, she was made erect again and began glorifying God. (Luk 13:13)

Another example was the demon-possessed boy that suffered from convulsions. They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth. And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood. "It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" (Mar 9:20-22). This poor boy could not stop the evil spirit from often throwing him into fire and water in an attempt to destroy him. Can you imagine being this boy’s father, walking through the marketplace with him, and as you are passing by an open fire, the boy has a convulsion and falls into the fire as though someone has pushed him. These people had to constantly rescue the boy from fire and water, so that he would not be destroyed. It must have been heart breaking. But Jesus cast out the demon and the boy was completely set free!

Satan likes to oppress people

The apostle Peter said, "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Act 10:38).

In the gospels we find that throngs of people came to hear Jesus “and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured.” (Luk 6:18)

Satan likes to oppress people and cause them trouble. But Jesus alone has the power to heal all who are oppressed by the devil.

Satan and the demons are evil, some more so than others
Jesus described what happened when a person’s body is cleansed of a demon. If the person is not filled with the Holy Spirit afterward, the demon will seek to come back, but will be sure and bring reinforcements to help ensure he will not be kicked out again. "Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation." (Mat 12:45)

This shows us that demons are evil, but there are some unclean spirits who are much more evil than others. When they enter a person’s life, the state of that man is worse as a result of their presence.

Satan is a liar and murderer
One of his primary tactics is deception. Jesus said to the religious people who were attacking Him, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (Joh 8:44). It’s pretty clear that Satan is a murderer and a liar.

Satan blinds people’s minds
The apostle Paul taught us that Satan is the god of this world. As such, he is in the business of brainwashing. He has blinded the minds of those who are perishing. Paul wrote: “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2Co 4:4). The last thing Satan wants is for those who are perishing to see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. So he is an expert at blinding their minds.

Satan leads people astray
Satan has been at work for thousands of years and he knows how to deceive people. Even believers need to be careful that they are not deceived also. The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church saying, “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” (2Co 11:3).

Satan keeps people in fear
One of Satan’s tactics is to intimidate people. He loves fear and uses all means at his disposal to try and make people afraid. Perhaps at the root of every fear is the fear of death. This is sort of the mother of all fears. And when a person fears death, they will do all kinds of strange things, which lead them into bondage. The writer of Hebrews wrote that Jesus came to “free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.” (Heb 2:15) How wonderful that Jesus frees us from the fear of death and all the slavery that goes with it.

Satan must ask for permission from God
It’s important to understand and remember that Satan can only do what God allows him to do. He is like a dog on a leash. He can only go as far as the Lord will permit him to go. But he always needs to get permission first.

Take for example, the devil’s plan to sift the apostle Peter like wheat. This was a major attack on Peter, which resulted in him denying the Lord and feeling condemned afterward. But listen to what Jesus said. He told Peter, “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32). You see, Satan had to ask permission to do that to Peter, and God chose to allow it. But Jesus prayed that Peters faith would not fail as a result of it.

The same happened in Job’s life. Satan had to approach God and ask permission to do what he did to Job and his family. And before he could do anything, God had to allow it. So he is not free to do whatever he wants. He is a created being with limitations placed upon him by God.

The devil and demons submit to Christ's disciples
Once we are saved, we have the authority and power over darkness and demons, because Jesus lives in us! When Jesus sent out the twelve disciples, He told them, "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give." (Mat 10:7-8)

After Jesus sent out the seventy disciples in pairs, they returned later with joy over their newly found power. In Luke's gospel we read: The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven." (Luk 10:17-20)

Jesus has given us authority to trample on serpents and scorpions. He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy! In fact, while the disciples were out carrying out their mission, Jesus saw Satan fall from heaven like a flash.

Just in case you're thinking this power and authority was only given to the twelve and the seventy, God's Word assures us it was given to all who believe in Jesus. "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;" (Mar 16:17). It's not in our own name or might that we do these things but in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Putting it All Together
Satan uses three main tactics in his dirty work – deception, temptation, and intimidation.

Satan and demons know Who Jesus is and they are terrified of Him. Satan hates Jesus and tempted Him to prove He is God’s Son, which was the height of disrespect. He does not want anyone to find Jesus, so he blinds people’s minds to keep them from seeing the Light of Christ. He’s a liar!

Satan is a murderer and has been from the beginning. He comes to kill, steal, and destroy. He and the demons love death and seek to get people infatuated with darkness and death. They like to hurt, oppress, and trouble people. When they enter a person’s life, the state of that man is worse as a result of their presence.

We also know that once the demons gain access to a territory, whether a geographical region or a person’s life, they do no want to give it up. They are evil and some of them are more so than others.

They lead people astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. That’s why we believers need to be on our guard, so that we ourselves are not led astray.

Whether or not you know Jesus, you may be hurt, oppressed, or troubled by the devil. Perhaps he has used his tactics to lead you astray and destroy you. But you don’t have to stay like that. It’s so wonderful that Jesus has come to save us from all this. He alone has the power to set us free from the oppression and bondage of the devil. And once we are saved, we have the authority and power over darkness and demons, because Jesus lives in us!
